Here are 10 qualities and suggestions on how to be a great manager and leader.
1- Remember relationships- in order for you to be an effective manager you must first have a good relationship with the people with whom you are working. Relationships must come before making sales, giving orders, or before any other act related to yourself.
2- Caring- it may sound cliché but it's a matter of fact that people only care now much you know when they know how much you care.
3- Sincerity- In order for you to effectively lead people, you must be sincere. When you are faking it, it is obvious to everyone. Only say what you mean and mean what you say.
4- Honesty and Integrity- in today's world these are becoming increasingly rare qualities but they are absolute musts in order for you to have any credibility as a manager and leader. If you are dishonest or you lack integrity then one day your actions will catch up with you and you will fail in your efforts to be a great manager.
5- Authenticity- You must be real and act like yourself. No one wants to follow a leader who is trying to be like someone else. Be real and act like you. You are great.
6- Be a reader. Readers are leaders and leaders are readers. Be always reading self- development books and magazines. Seek to improve yourself.
7- Be humble. No one likes a prideful manager. Be willing to change when needed and be open to receiving feedback in regards to anything that may need to be changed.
8- Give Service. What goes around, comes around. If you serve others then others will want and be willing to serve you. They will also view you as kind and will be more likely to follow your requests and to help you out.
9- Be teachable. Be willing to listen to the advice and experiences of others. Always be learning and practicing new ideas, concepts and methods.
10- Take inventory of how you are doing as a manager. Every once and a while rate yourself on how you are doing and on how those you lead and manage are doing under your leadership. Is there something you need to change? If you aren't sure about it, try asking others for their help in evaluating you and your habits and behaviors.
